Dear Mr. Braine-Hartnell,
I write to say that I have decided to recommend
you for appointment to the Lectureship in English now vacant
in the University of Hongkong. The appointment rests
actually with the University Council but I am cabling to
Hongkong asking the Council to confirm my selection and to
inform Mr. A.C. Ainsworth of the Board of Education
accordingly.

I am leaving to-night, but Mr. Ainsworth will let
you know as soon as he receives the cable from Hongkong.
In the event of your being appointed, we want you

in Hongkong as soon as possible.
on September 12th and though I shall not expect you to be
there by that date, I shall hope that you will arrive as
soon afterwards as possible.
